Walking into a Korean convenience store — whether a GS25, CU, 7-Eleven, or Emart24 — is an experience unlike any in the world. These are not the stripped-down petrol station shops familiar to many travelers. Korean convenience stores are fully stocked with a rotating selection of freshly made onigiri (samgak kimbap), hot foods, refrigerated meal boxes, and a dizzying variety of snacks, drinks, and instant products, all available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The quality of convenience store food in Korea is genuinely impressive. Rice meal boxes (dosirak) are prepared fresh each morning with balanced combinations of rice, protein, and vegetables. The hot food station — typically a spinning rack near the register — holds fried items like hot dogs, corn dogs (hoteok), and seasoned chicken pieces that are restocked throughout the day. Triangular kimbap (samgak gimbap) are among the most iconic items: seaweed-wrapped rice parcels filled with everything from tuna mayo to kimchi to fire chicken.
